چکیده | ||
Thickeners are the most common dewatering equipment for recovering the water in the most mineral processing plants. The Aftab iron ore plant is one of the smallest iron concentrate producers in Iran, located in the Khorasan province. In this study, the plant tailing thickener was audited for 60 days. The audit showed high flocculant consumption and high turbidity of thickener overflows. However, low water recovery was the major thickener problem. Additionally, it has been shown that the high solid concentration of the thickener feed, uncompleted flocculant conditioning, thickener underflow pipeline system, and operations strategy were the main reasons for the thickener’s low performance. Therefore, the feed solids concentration was decreased by using water pumping to the feed flow. Also, flocculant type, concentration, dosage, and conditioning time were modified. Then, the thickener underflow pipeline system was modified to transfer high solid content pulps without choking. Finally, the relation between thickener electromotor ampere draw and thickener underflow solids’ concentration was determined and used as the operation strategy. The modifications increased the thickener underflow solid’s concentration about 17%, decreased flocculant dosage around 34%, and also the turbidity of thickener overflow water decreased from 3% to 200 ppm in critical conditions. | ||
